The University of Bologna is the oldest university in the Western world and one of the largest in Italy, with more than 80.000 students. The Departments of Chemistry “G. Ciamician” and of Physics and Astronomy are institutes of excellence in Chemistry and Physics education, dissemination and research at both national and international levels. Both departments are involved in the Italian projects PLS (scientific degree plan) aimed at orienteering secondary school students, fostering collaboration and training of teachers, and disseminating scientific culture.

The Department STeBiCeF at the University of Palermo is an education and research structure. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in biology, chemistry and pharmaceutical science. Approximately 120 staff members are involved in various aspects of research in the above disciplines. The education research group is engaged in topics dealing with the development of innovative education tools and high school teachers' training.
Museum of Balì
The Museum of Balì in Saltara (Italy) is a modern science center, hosting an exhibition with 35 interactive stations, an optical planetarium and a modern astronomical observatory with a main reflector telescope, solar telescopes and even a 2.5 m diameter small radiotelescope.
