The University of Groningen is a research university with a global outlook, deeply rooted in Groningen, City of Talent. The University has 27,000 students and 5500 staff members from home and abroad. Talent is nurtured, enabling the University to bridge the gap between science and society. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences harbours a kaleidoscope of disciplines and research strengths. Our programmes in research and education range from nanomaterials and biomachinery to astronomy, from mathematics to pharmacy, from neurosciences to computer science, and from molecular and evolutionary biology to marine biology.
Science LinX
With a fresh and tailored approach Science LinX introduces teenagers, teachers and the lay audience to science. To that aim, it has a permanent science exhibition in the faculty buildings, offers activities for school classes and a series of programmes to stimulate STEM teaching, such as the science truck. It is a founding partner of the local Night of Arts and Science festival. Each year Science LinX involves some 50.000 visitors in its activities. Key is to link formal (in school) and informal (e.g. out of school) learning. Science LinX is part of the PLACES, Cities of Scientific Culture alliance of science centres, universities and cities that targets science communication across Europe.
